Nerida Adams from the Northern NSW Local Health District Multipurpose Service Network attended the “Insights into the Hospital Dementia Experience” experiential workshop aiming to provide staff with an understanding of the frustration, confusion, exhaustion and disorientation that people with dementia experience in hospital.
Allied health professionals are now more likely to recognise cognitive impairment. As a consequence it is better managed at both the acute (especially in General Medicine) and subacute sites. Confusing and contradictory messages still occur, but much less frequently.
